A new interpretation that portrays rampant, distinctive tones and dark, deep harmonies, acclaimed by the New York Times as "unmistakably musical" and by Gramophone as "an artist to be reckoned with," violinist Miranda Cookson was born in Australia, studied in the United States, and is currently a soloist, A young artist, she is an outstanding performer of both soloist and chamber music. She has released several albums, mostly of 20th century works by Luigi NONO, Xenakis, and others that make extensive use of electronics, and is also known for her uniquely sharp sensibility that is unparalleled. In her ECM debut, also a collection of 20th century works, she chose Slavic and Russian works, which she says she was "strongly attracted to" after discussions with Eicher during the album's production, and succeeded in capturing the unique tone and dark, deep harmonies that pervade these works. Pianist MacMillan is also an accomplished chamber musician with a wide repertoire ranging from medieval and Renaissance to contemporary works. A breathtaking ensemble is developed.
