KYN" is one of the leading female choirs in Finland and was founded in 1981 at the Helsinki Business School (now Aalto University, Faculty of Commerce). Following "A New Beginning" (ABCD 223), "If I Could Talk to You" (ABACD 15), and "Bewitching Cantele" (NCD 57), KYN's fifth album for Alba Records, "From the Shadows", celebrates the 40th anniversary of KYN. The three song collections, "Crocus Songs" by jazz pianist Kirmo Lintinen, "Shadows" by modernist composer Riikka Talvitje, and "In the Evening" by jazz drummer and bandleader Mikko Hassinen, were composed on commission from KYN and feature some of the most creative writers in contemporary Finland, including The recording was conducted by Kaija Viitasalo, who has been the artistic director of KYN since 1989.
