Description:

A project commemorating the 120th anniversary of Mravinsky's birth. The latest reissue of the historical masterpieces in a 3-CD set. The 4th Symphony and the two pieces with Rozhestvensky recorded at the same time in London are also newly included! The latest reissue of the superb masterpieces! This is the first SA-CD hybrid release from DG, and the first time Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra performed in seven countries (England, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria) between September and November 1960. The set includes stereo session recordings made by Deutsche Grammophon in London and Vienna during a tour of seven countries (England, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria) from September to November 1960. The tour was accompanied by the 29-year-old conductor Rozhestvensky and the 33-year-old cellist Rostropovich, and the recordings here include those conducted by Rozhestvensky (except for two pieces performed by Rostropovich and Rozhestvensky). In this latest reissue, each symphony is housed on a separate disc, and in the margins of Nos. 4 and 5 are coupled with two orchestral works conducted by Rozhestvensky that were recorded in London beginning the day after Symphony No. 4.The London session took place at Wembley Town Hall in London on September 12-17, in between four performances at the Edinburgh Festival on September 6, 7, 9, and 10, beginning on September 20. September 12 Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme (not included in this set.
