The French ensemble Le Poème Armonique has been making a significant contribution to the restoration of unknown 17th century music since its formation at the end of the 20th century. While they have strongly impressed the world with their fascination for the unknown French music of the early 17th century, before the classical form was established under the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King, they have also shown a remarkable aptitude for the music of early to mid Italian Baroque, which was making its first major breakthrough at the same time, and have continued to fascinate the world with their unique and masterful performances. The CD recording of the complete works is now available. The CD recording of Cavalli's "Edisto" is a repertoire that they and their leader Dumestre have been presenting for the past 10 years with various singers, so to speak, in their own medicine chest! Cavalli, who had been a great master of Italian opera since the early 17th century, was in the process of becoming the new darling of Italian opera, and he performed this work from a libretto by Faustini, with whom he would continue to work closely. The story revolving around two men and a woman with mixed feelings for each other takes a surprising turn when the protagonist, Egisto, played by the talented Moynihan, who has an overwhelming acting ability in his voice, becomes turbulent.The experienced virtuosos such as Jeremy Papaserzio on dulcian (the predecessor of the bassoon) and recorder, and Elisabeth Geiger, who is a master of three different keyboards, are also brilliant (Tatsuya Hatano also participates on strings).
