Wearing thick white makeup and outlandish attire, he quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the underground scene in the early 1980s, performing original songs and quirky arrangements of cover versions of everything from arias to pop music with his countertenor. David Bowie heard rumors of his performance and asked him to design costumes and sing in the back chorus for a special on NBC TV's "Saturday Night Live.
