Jerome Antaï's solo fortepiano recording is now available! Jérôme Antaï is a world-renowned viola da gamba player who also performs as Trio Antaï with his three brothers, Pierre (harpsichord) and Marc (recorder), but he has also shown a keen interest in keyboard music, especially works from the early piano period (the fortepiano period). He has also shown a strong interest in keyboard music, especially works from the early piano period (the fortepiano period). Here is his first solo CD as a keyboardist. The five sonatas here were composed between 1773 and 1783; in 1774 Haydn published his first collection of sonatas for solo keyboard. It was also in this year that Mozart first tackled this genre. The stylistic transitions across composers in these works are a striking indication that this was a time when the keyboard instrument was transitioning from the harpsichord to the fortepiano. Here, Jerome Anthey recorded the piece using a German fortepiano made for the 18th century effect version. His excellent left hand reminds us again that he is indeed a long-time supporter of ancient music ensembles as a gamba player, and we can enjoy his expressive and singing tone on this disc.
