The 2020 Grammy Award-winning Atacca Quartet presents a very unique connection between Renaissance and minimalist music. In 2021, the quartet moved to Sony Classical and released its own album "REAL LIFE" (digital distribution only) with dance beats, which has been attracting attention for its new activities. And now he is releasing "Of All Joys" as a unique concept album that connects Renaissance and minimalist music. The key phrase of the album is "the strength of simplicity. It features minimalist works by Arvo Pärt and works by Renaissance composers such as John Dowland, Orlando Gibbons, and Allegri. What these pieces of music have in common is a clear flow and simple harmony, rhythm, and structure that embodies the beauty of the spirit.At the center of the album is the six-movement String Quartet No. 3 "Mishima," taken from Philip Glass's score for Paul Schrader's 1985 film Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, which is considered one of the most important and influential Japanese authors of the 20th century. Another contemporary composer, Pärt, leads the audience through the music of his depiction of the life and death of Yukio Mishima, considered by many to be one of the most important and influential Japanese writers of the 20th century. His masterpieces, "Summa" and "Fratres," begin and end the album. The album was produced during the Corona Disaster Lockdown. The title of the album is a line from Dowland's song "Flow, My Tears": ".... And tears and sighs and groans my weary days /Of all joys have deprived..." "My pain shall never be healed. And tears and sighs and groans my weary days /Of all joys have deprived...".Cellist Andru Yee explains: "When we recorded at the Corona Disaster, I had the feeling that we were recording music we had been deprived of. I couldn't even play chords or play perfect fifths with my quartet mates. I couldn't stop crying while playing and had to stop recording. This album is filled with the joy of playing this music."
