Love songs intimately spun by Angela Hewitt, goddess of the keyboard. An enchanting collection of piano transcriptions, including Hewitt's own arrangements! Angela Hewitt, the goddess of the keyboard, presents a remarkable new album of piano transcriptions from love songs written by Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Gershwin, and others. This may seem surprising since Hewitt has never recorded a compilation album of various composers, but the idea for recording "Love Song Transcriptions" actually came to her more than 20 years ago. Hyperion's producer (and founder) at the time, Ted Perry, was favorable to the idea, but after Ted's passing, he was busy pursuing other repertoire and touring the world and could not find the time to bring the idea to fruition. Then the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 wiped out concerts months in advance overnight, and instead offered the opportunity to spend hours in the solitude of his home researching his ideas and putting this recording together. The result is a collection of gems of transcription that Hewitt intimately spins.Mahler's "Adagietto" and Stelzer's aria "If You Are With Me," also known as BWV.508 in the Music Book for Anna McDalena Bach, were arranged by Angela Hewitt herself.
