The second release from "clarinet wizard" Martin Fröst is Messiaen's lifetime masterpiece "Quartet for the End of the World," featuring Janine Jansen, Luca Duvalgue, and other talented players, on the album "Roots" released in 2016. The second album by Martin Frest, the "magician of the clarinet" who moved to Sony Classical, is "Quartet for the End of the World," Messiaen's greatest work, featuring Janine Jansen, Luca Duvalgue, and other talented players! Frest first performed with Jansen 16 years ago. At that time, they performed "Quartet for the End of the World". The cello in that performance was played by the Swedish virtuoso Torleiv Tedene (many recordings on the BIS label), and the performance was remembered as an extremely fulfilling musical experience for all three of them. Frest waited for the right moment, and in 2017, when he finally got the young prodigy Luca Duvalg on piano, he decided to record this great work with his old acquaintances Jansen and Thedeen.Frest, Jansen, and Deten are well known as chamber music virtuosos, but this is Luca DuVargue's first chamber music recording. This piece is known for the episode that Messiaen, who was captured by the Germans during World War II, composed and premiered the piece in a prison camp, and the very unique composition of piano, violin, cello, and clarinet was intended for Messiaen himself to play the piano and perform with the musicians he met in the camp, and the eight movements Only four players play together in four movements; the rest are solo, duet (two movements), and trio, and it is a difficult piece that requires a wide range of expressiveness, as if each player were to use their skills and the characteristics of their instruments to the utmost limit. Frest's brilliant and superb technique (the overwhelming dynamic range of "The Abyss of the Birds"), Jansen's fragrant and fresh violin (the mysterious sensuality of the final movement, "Hymn to the Immortality of Jesus"), Teden's austere, witty and profound sound, and Duvalg's rich sensitivity and strong personality. The piano is colored by Duvalg's rich sensitivity and strong personality....Four virtuoso musicians with abundant individuality vividly depict the diverse and original world of the "Quartet for the End of the World". There is no shortage of unique and masterful performances of this quartet, including Messiaen's own performance and Tassi's masterpiece (RCA) that made this piece world-famous, but this Frest/Jansen/Tedean/Dubargue disc is one of the best new recordings of the last few years.
