The fantastic story of love, anger, passion, fire-breathing monsters, flying dragons, and exotic magical islands amid sensational scene changes, combined with innovative Italian music and all the possibilities of Baroque theater, enthralled audiences and laid the foundation for an unprecedented career as an opera writer. The result was an unprecedented career as a writer of operas. The 1731 version on this album is the first CD release of this rarely performed version, as Handel made significant changes to the score and libretto, including transposing the voices, changing the key, reworking existing material (especially the recitative), and adding new music, primarily in the final act. Italian countertenor Filippo Minaccia, who has been noted for his extremely creative work and has participated in many recordings and performances by La Venexiana, Antonio Florio & Capella Napolitana (formerly I Turquini), Carlo Ippata & Ausel Musici, and others, plays the leading role, and for his The splendid lineup of singers, including Roberta Mamelli and Vivica Junod, who play the roles of the women who fight for him, will color this masterpiece left by Handel. *Recorded August 7-12, 2023 at Heath Street Baptist Church, London, England.
