A duo album by Italy's greatest harpists! The harpist Mara Galassi is well-known to fans of ancient music as the first Italian-born Baroque harpist and the teacher of Masumi Nagasawa and Marie Nishiyama, two of Japan's world-famous harpists. Mara Garassi's new album, "Harp in the Sky" (GCD C81302), a magnificent project to recreate the harp music that Marie Antoinette, the tragic queen, heard in the Palace of Versailles, has received a great response, This is a duo album with Flora Papadopoulos, a native of Greece and one of her students at the Conservatory in Milan. In Germany during the Baroque period, various types of harps were used, including the "David harp" (a harp depicting King David with bray pins to create a deliberately chirpy sound). This album is an excellent project to introduce the German repertoire, which has been little known until now, using five different types of harps from this period. The works are from various German collections, including the "Musikalische Rustkammer" in Dresden and the collection of the Silesian monk Father Pius.The Italian concerto at the end of the album was arranged by the girls based on the style of harp manuscripts and lute duets.
