Handel & Haydn Society's Haydn! Symphony No. 100 "The Army" and "Nelson Mass"! The Handel & Haydn Society (HHS), America's oldest period orchestra, and Harry Christophers, the 13th Music Director of the HHS in 2008, present the seventh in a series of live Haydn symphonies! Symphony No. 100, one of the 12 "London Symphonies" and nicknamed "The Army" because of its depiction of a violent war, was composed during Haydn's visit to London from 1791 to 1795. Also included is "Nelson Mass," one of the masterpieces of the Mass, which shows the influence of the "London Symphony Collection. In addition to the faithful period performance by the Handel & Haydn Society, the concert will also feature the soprano of the moment, Mary Bevan, who was awarded an MBE in 2019, as well as the splendid Kathryn Wynne-Rogers, Jeremy Budd, and Sumner Thompson, who continue from the previous "Harmonie Mass".
