LSO Percussion Ensemble & Ayanna Witter-Johnson's mesmerizing ensemble now available in analog This is the analog version of LSO 5122 (CD). Ayanna Witter-Johnson, who began playing piano at age 3 and cello shortly after, graduated at the top of her class from the Manhattan School of Music, has been commissioned to compose by the LSO, the Gürzenich Orchestra, the Kronos Quartet, and others, toured with Bocelli, and performed in jazz, reggae, soul, and R&B. She has also collaborated with artists from other genres such as jazz, reggae, soul, R&B, etc. She has been nominated for a MOBO award. This live recording of a concert featuring a commissioned work was made possible after she performed with members of the LSO percussion ensemble. Witter-Johnson's tasteful compositions are spun with her own charming voice, cello, and LSO percussionists, all of whom display a superb sense of style. In 1781, the British slave ship Zongu left Ghana with twice as many slaves as the ship could carry to Jamaica, and the ship's owner ordered the crew to throw over 130 live slaves overboard, claiming there was not enough drinking water. Ayanah Witter-Johnson, who spent her childhood summers on Jamaica's beautiful beaches, happened to witness an unfortunate water accident on a recent return visit. OCEAN FLOOR SUITE" was written in response to these accidents. The final piece on side B, "Forever," is an encore piece that gently closes the show.
