Documentary films of Carlos Kleiber, Georg Solti, Leonard Bernstein, and Herbert von Karajan, the greatest conductors of the second half of the 20th century, are now available in a Blu-ray box set. (The DVD box (74-4108) is no longer available.) Documentary footage of the legendary charismatic conductor Carlos Kleiber, who passed away in 2004. He was a legendary conductor who gave only a limited repertoire, gave only a few concerts, and made only a few recordings, but once on stage, his performances captivated all who heard him. The title "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" is taken from Mahler's "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen" ("I am forgotten in the world") from the "Five Romances on Verses by Rückert. The film offers a rare glimpse into Kleiber's charisma and musicianship, including fascinating testimonies from orchestra members, and footage of the orchestra pit in Bayreuth's "Tristan und Isolde", Georg Solti, who made significant contributions to the history of orchestras and recordings, including the complete recording of Wagner's "Ring" made with Kalchow.Shorty left an excellent autobiography shortly before his death, and this video, with the help of Valerie's widow, uses a variety of rare photos and videos to tell the story of Shorty's life in three dimensions. The second half of the film is footage of a performance by Schorti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
