C.P.E. Bach's Gamba Sonata on viola! A modern reproduction of the performance on the viola da braccio of the time! Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) composed the three brilliant "Viola da gamba sonatas" during his Berlin period, and this remarkable work is performed not on the "viola da gamba" but on the "viola"! In the mid to late 18th century, when these three works were created by C.P.E. Bach, who worked at the court of Friedrich the Great, the viola da gamba was no longer used in most European countries, and some documents have survived that permit the use of the viola da braccio when performing these works. The use of the viola da gamba was discontinued in most European countries in the latter half of the 18th century. Italian violinist and violist Luca Lazzarini worked on three of C.P.E. Bach's sonatas to recreate this "viola da braccio" performance that would have taken place in the late 18th century. After studying violin and viola with Giovanni Guglielmo and Giovanni Petrella, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.He studied Baroque violin with Fabio Missaggia and Baroque viola with Stefano Marcocchi in Vicenza and Verona, and is currently active in the Italian ancient music scene as leader of the period instrument ensemble Il Trattimento Armonico. The instrument used is a replica of Antonio Stradivari's 1748 made by Massimiliano Dalla Costa in 2020. The excellent works that connect C.P.E. Bach's Baroque and Classical periods, which would have been played in "Viola da Braccio," will be performed with rich viola tone--. Tokyo M-Plus
