Johan Kvandahl was born in Norway at the beginning of the 20th century. His father was David Monrad Johansen, who was active in Germany and Norway at the time and whose works were highly acclaimed, but his son, Kvandahl, did not take his father's surname because he did not want to be recognized by his parents. While influenced by various musicians in Vienna and Paris, in his later years he composed several mysterious works based on his own method of tonality and incorporating folkloric elements, and his last work, the "Piano Concerto," is loved for its grandeur. This album contains all of his solo piano works. From his early "Sonatine" to his late work "Mosaic", there is an interesting array of pieces. Recorded in 2014 by Joachim Knopf (piano). (C)RS
