Anas Koppel (1947-) is a unique figure among contemporary Danish composers. Although classically trained, he was active in experimental music in the 1960s and 1970s, and was a member of the renowned Danish rock group Savage Rose. His works are firmly rooted in the classical European musical tradition while incorporating rock and jazz tastes, and it is no exaggeration to say that he continues to compose music to integrate them. This work includes his Marimba Concerto, which is both symphonic and uninhibited. Recorded in 2012/2013, the marimba's sound is a pleasure to hear, as it handles the intricacies and rushes past the listener's eyes. (C)RS
