A collection of piano works by Russian Late Romantic composer Sergei Lyapunov! This is a collection of masterpieces for piano by Russian Late Romantic composer Sergei Lyapunov (1859-1924). Although Lyapunov's name is not well known, he is highly regarded in Russia, especially for his piano works. This CD contains two examples of Lyapunov's relationship with sonatas: Op.27, which is reminiscent of Liszt's B minor sonata, and Op.65, which has a purity reminiscent of classicism. Other works include the moving and somewhat Chopin-like "Boat Song," the brilliant "Prelude and Fugue," which can be said to be Lyapunov's reinterpretation of past music, and the powerful "Variations on a Russian Theme and Fugue. These works also reveal Lyapunov's interest in folklore. This is a must-listen for lovers of Russian music. Tokyo M-Plus
