Pavement is one of the most important bands in the 90's US alternative rock scene, along with Yo La Tengo, Dinosaur Jr. and Wilco, and was one of the pioneers of the lo-fi guitar rock movement. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, a band formed by the band's brainchild and frontman Stephen Malkmus in 2000, shortly after Pavement broke up, has released a new album, their first in four years since their last album, 2014's "Wig Out at Jagbags".The album is produced by Chris Funk, a multi-instrumentalist with The Disembalists, and features a sound reminiscent of the Pavement era, with Malkmus in full bloom.The warm, simple, and rustic melody of the preceding track "Middle America" (M-5) is beautifully blended with a bad-ass vocal, while the psychedelic and dreamy sound world of "Kite" (M-8) is impressive and surprising even to Tame Impala, and the weeping guitar throughout the track "Shiggy" (M-7) grabs the heart of alternative music fans and won't let go. The album also features 11 tracks, including "Shiggy" (M-7), which grabs the hearts of alt-rock fans with its weeping guitars, and "Refute" (M-10), a country-tinged song featuring guest vocals from Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon.
