Trombone prodigy Jorgen van Leyen explores new repertoire for the trombone from the baroque to the contemporary! The history of the trombone dates back to the 15th century, but the repertoire of chamber music written for this instrument is limited. Especially in the Classical and Romantic periods, when many chamber music masterpieces were written, there is no chamber music written for the trombone by the great composers of those periods," says the brilliant trombonist Jürgen van Rijn. Van Rijn decided to record this album with the string quartet, the "king" of chamber music, because he believes that the quartet can explore a wide range of repertoire from baroque to contemporary music. The quartet is composed of colorful works by Dowland, Bartók, Fauré, Satie, and newly commissioned works. Jorgen van Rijn, who studied with George Wiegel at the Conservatory of Rotterdam and Michel Becquet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, has been principal trombonist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and since 1997 of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He is one of the world's top trombonists. His "MacMillan, Fabay, Berio: Trombone Concertos" (KKC-6180 / BIS SA-2333) was selected as a special selection by the Recording Arts magazine, and his many discs have also received high acclaim.
