Kicking things off with PoetsofRhythm, followed by WhitefieldBrothers, KarlHector&Malcouns, Rodinia, and others—composer JJ Whitefield, who has showcased his diverse talents across the boundaries of funk and breakbeats, presents his new Afro-funk band, Johnny! A new project spun off from the Karl Hector & The Malcouns and Whitefield Brothers projects, Johnny! is an Afro-rock/funk band reflecting influences from Ghana and Z-rock. Johnny! is a project brought to life by JJ Whitefield—the most powerful producer in the current rare groove scene, who has always pursued experimental and avant-garde sounds—alongside Ghanaian legend Ebo Taylor, his son Henry Taylor, and singer/percussionist Eric Owusu. This album fuses Ghana’s hypnotic beats and grooves with a fuzzy, psychedelic sound influenced by 1970s Zanzibar rock, giving it a modern twist. A rich groove woven from layered rhythms, and a magnificent soundscape created by the interplay of live and electronic sounds from a diverse array of instruments, with fuzz guitar taking center stage! This masterpiece album combines a unique worldview and quality that are on a completely different level from any current band!
