GEMMAOWENS, known as GIMMY, built her career as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the all-female psychedelic rock band THEOOGARS and is currently based in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Since her debut in 2021, this talented artist has garnered high praise from various media outlets, including Australia’s ROLLING STONE magazine, for her chameleon-like musicality that spans from psychedelic garage rock to delicate folk. Approximately two years after her 2024 debut album *THINGS LOOK DIFFERENT NOW*, this second album was produced by master producer SAM JOSEPH, known for his work with KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD. In contrast to the quiet introspection of her previous album, which delved deeply into her inner self, this work captures the impulsive and emotional intensity of a recording session that took place over just four to five days. Featuring seven tracks in total, including "CHOMPINGATTHEBIT"—a track with dry guitar riffs and a racing tempo, showcasing GEMMA’s signature raw vocals reminiscent of Morrissey—and "DARLIN'WHEREHAVEUBEEN?", a poetry reading where sharp post-punk beats depict the chaos and beauty of everyday life. While bearing the influence of THE SMITHS and NICK CAVE, the sound embodies the fresh dynamism of the contemporary Australian indie scene. This multifaceted, vibrant new recording resonates with the artist’s own sense of color in her naive art. It is a unique album that has established a stronger identity without losing its initial passion.
