2019 marks the 80th anniversary of Blue Note’s founding. To celebrate this milestone year, a new analog series—the 180g heavyweight LP “Tone Poets” series—is launching. This series was launched after current president Don Was praised the exceptional audiophile reissues released by the independent label Music Matters. Joe Harley (AKA The Tone Poet) serves as the curator for this special reissue series from the Blue Note family of labels. From the cover art to the print quality, every conceivable detail has been meticulously attended to—from Kevin Grey’s superb vinyl mastering to Record Technology Inc.’s 180g audiophile press—to ensure this series is released with the utmost care. Audio enthusiasts will not find a better version of these LPs anywhere else. This fifth release in the series is the 1961 Blue Note debut album by Roosevelt "Baby Face" Willette, a Hammond B3 player who, though not as famous as Jimmy Smith—partly because he passed away at the young age of 37—is a must-know for fans of organ soul jazz. Although he recorded only one other Blue Note album, this release features a sound with strong blues influences and a deep groove, centered around Willette’s originals. The cover art by Reed Miles is also superb.
