Titled after the fact that he was born in a leap year, this album transcends a mere studio recording to emerge as an “ongoing ritual” constructed through voice, rhythm, and intuition. Guided by the philosophy that “the voice is the instrument,” the album weaves together spoken word, the abstraction of jazz, the rhythmic sensibility of hip-hop, West African polyrhythms, ambient sounds, and ceremonial soundscapes. Centered on improvisation, language itself is treated as a vibrating rhythm, giving rise to expressions that transcend conventional song structures. Starting with the lead single “Conspiracy,” featuring Gonjasufi and MoorMother, the album also includes contributions from Carlos Nino, Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Kamasi Washington, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, lending a multi-layered depth to the work’s world. This work also encompasses themes of history, ancestry, loss, and resistance, and possesses an aspect of “prayer” constructed through dialogue with invisible beings.
