Ikegami Ko

Description:

NHK Symphony Orchestra trombonist Wataru Ikegami's solo album is now available. Ikegami has been a member of the NHK Symphony Orchestra since 2001 after playing with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He has been a member of Japan's top orchestra for many years, where many of the world's maestros have served as soloists, and has also been actively involved in ensembles. The album that Ikegami is finally releasing is a full-bodied program that is a lavish infusion of the music that has become Ikegami's flesh and blood over the course of his rich career. The lineup is composed of pieces from various periods and styles, and should be considered a touchstone for trombonists. With Ayano Shiro, who played at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and is highly trusted by all performers, on the piano, Ikegami will be playing with a true sense of ease. The title piece, commissioned by percussionist Satoru Takeshima, who also plays with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, is also a must-hear. The four pieces by Boza, Schreck, Hindemith, and David are, coincidentally, designated as the subjects and selections for the trombone section of this year's (2023) Japan Wind and Percussion Competition, so be sure to check them out. <Wataru Ikegami (trombone) was born in Warabi City, Saitama Prefecture. His musical career began when he sang in the Warabi Boys Choir as a child. He started playing the trombone in junior high school when he joined the brass band club. In his second year of junior high school, he began studying under the late Naoyuki Shiraishi. In 1989, he entered Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1989, he entered Tokyo University of the Arts, where he passed an audition for the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and became a professional orchestral player. Studied under the late Yukio Nagahama while at the University of the Arts. He won the third prize at the 8th Japan Winds and Percussion Competition. Awarded the 3rd Idemitsu Music Award Encouragement Prize. In 1995, after graduating from the university, he moved to the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra as a principal player, and in 2001, he moved to the NHK Symphony Orchestra, where he has been performing ever since. He is a member of Nagisa Brass Solisten, The Chamber Brass, and Backbone Japan. Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. Part-time lecturer at Showa University of Music. FONTEC
