Weigle & Frankfurt Opera Rimsky=Korsakov Opera "Christmas Eve A Christmas Eve in a small village in the Ukraine. When Vakula, a blacksmith, proposes to Oksana, the daughter of a Cossack tube, she asks him to marry her if he will give her the "Empress's Shoes". With the help of the sorceress Patsyuk, Vakula flies into the night sky toward St. Petersburg, led by a captured demon, in order to obtain the "Empress's Shoes".... Based on "Christmas Eve," Rimsky=Korsakov composed this piece using an original harmonic orchestration. Although the music was highly acclaimed at the time of its premiere, this disc is a rare video recording of the work, which had few chances to be performed due to the difficulty of the stage direction. The singing lineup includes Georgi Vasiliev, a beautiful tenor with a beautiful voice, as the leading role of Vakula; Julia Musichenko, an up-and-coming soprano with a rich expression as Oksana; Enkeleida Shkoza, a veteran as Sorokha; and Andrei Popov as the Devil. The chorus and orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera under the leadership of Sebastian Weigle will perform Rimsky=Korsakov's lush music in a brilliant performance.The stage by the genius Christophe Roy is a ballet dancer's dance representation of anthropomorphic nature (winter solstice and spring). The work's mystical atmosphere is beautifully conveyed by interspersing fantastic scenes of the main character, Vakula, demons and witches flying in midair against a starry night sky. Naxos Japan
