Description:
The piano trio occupies a particularly important place in the history of Russian chamber music. This five-volume series explores the history of the Russian piano trio through a variety of works. The opening work of the genre in Russia is Alyabiev's Trio in E-flat major, composed in 1815, which, though unfinished, has an elegant and lively flavor reminiscent of Mozart. The A minor, written in 1834, is also elegant, but does not yet have the character of Russian music, as the piano is not used to its fullest extent. However, the melancholy atmosphere of Glinka's "Pathetique" Trio, written around the same time, greatly influenced later Russian composers. Anton Rubinshtein's Trio is a work in which the piano plays a major role, as the composer himself was an excellent pianist. The Brahms Trio, an ensemble of promising young Russian players, performs it with great sophistication. Naxos Japan
