Karlsons, Juris / Liepaja Symphony Orchestra;Karlsons, Juris (1948-)

Description:

A collection of Latvian orchestral works presented by Kuzma & Liepāja Symphony Orchestra! Jaris Karlsons (b.1948) is a Latvian composer belonging to the older generation. He has created many dynamic works in various genres, taught at the Jaseps Vitlis Latvian Music Academy from 1990 to 2007, and was president of the Latvian Federation of Composers from 1989 to 1993. This album by Guntis Kuzma (b.1983) and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra features the first studio recording of Carlsons' orchestral works. The ballet "Antonija in Silmaci" is based on a play by Rudolfus Braumanis (1863-1908) about a young widowed owner, Antonija, her daughter, the head farmer, and the tailors, set on a farm in Silmaci, Latvia in the early 20th century Composed in 2017, premiered the following year. The album features nine "suites" composed in 2020. El Cid - Dances of Life and Death" is based on a different legend from Pierre Corneille's play "Le Cid" (El Cid), which was performed in Riga.It is composed to "tone" passion, blood, honor, nobility of soul, and sincerity. Joseph's Vision was written as a "distant echo" of reminiscence and introspection, with no direct connection to Thomas Mann's 1981 play Joseph and His Brothers. A "vision" of the past, the future, or both. The "reality" of Joseph's loneliness, alone in the eastern desert, is depicted from a perspective similar to that of the Latvian poet and playwright Rainis. Tokyo M-Plus
