Description:
Matthias Bartholomei, born into a musical family that has been in Vienna for over 120 years, dedicates this album to his father with all his heart. Matthias' great-grandfather was a clarinetist and his grandfather was a violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic. His father, Franz, was principal cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic and soloist in the recordings of Haydn: Concerto Symphony (DG) conducted by Bernstein and R. Strauss's "Don Quixote" (Telarc) conducted by Previn. Although Matthias became a cellist like his father, in his youth he rebelled against his father and adopted a different approach. However, one day, some time after his father's death in 2023, Matthias watched a recording of his father playing and realized that he had unconsciously absorbed many of his father's expressions and made them his own. This album was recorded in the same hall and with the same music as his father's 2001 recording, and is accompanied at the end by a Schubert piece arranged by Matthias. It is not only a tribute from Matthias to his father, but also to the composers and performers who have made Vienna their stage. Matthias Bartholomew. Born in Vienna, he began playing the cello at the age of seven and studied with Clemens Hagen. He has played with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and is currently a member of the Vienna Konzentus Musikus and a professor at the Salzburg University of Music. In 2012, he formed the duo "BartolomeyBittmann" with violinist Clemens Bittmann, creating unique music that transcends the boundaries of classical music. In 2022, they won the German Record Critics Award for their album "zehn. Naxos Japan
