A. Scarlatti's Nativity Music, a mixture of old-fashioned techniques and melodious tunes. Alessandro Scarlatti, the father of Domenico Scarlatti, who wrote 555 keyboard sonatas, became the music director of the royal household of Naples at the age of 23. He soon made his mark in Rome, and also gained many patrons in the Eternal City, which was also a major center of Baroque art. While helping his son Domenico in his early career, Alessandro remained at the forefront of composition throughout his life. The first half of this recording features a Nativity Mass and motet, which the composer donated to the church, and the second half features A. Scarlatti's unique world of church music, which combines melodious tunes with the polyphony of the Renaissance. The first half of the concert features the Nativity Mass and motets donated to the church by A. Scarlatti.The second half includes a cantata he also wrote for Christmas and a substantial Nativity Mass by Giorgi, a contemporary composer who served in another important church in Rome, San Giovanni Laterano. The Ghislieri Choir and Ensemble, at the forefront of the Italian music scene, make the most of the characteristics of each work and deliver a lively, spontaneous, and full interpretation in a well-organized ensemble.
