Romanian composer Anatole Wiel has created a unique blend of classical technique, avant-garde modernism, and folk elements in his music. His Jewish lineage and his background as a survivor of the 1944 Holocaust in the Palestinian ghetto have also influenced his music. He also became committed to postmodernism after the Romanian Revolution of 1989. He created symphonies and operas with grand narratives. This album includes chamber music. The Trio, in which elements of the late symphonies are sublimated, and "Scripture," a piece of "additive music," a technique unique to Wiel in which new material is added to small pieces of material. Pianist Irmela Lerke, who first encountered Wiel's music in 2016, was so fascinated by the originality of his works that she began researching and performing them. Naxos Japan
