Description:
Brothers Philip and Ksavar Scharwenka were born in Samtel, Prussia (now Shamotowy, Poland), and received their serious musical education in Berlin. Older brother Philip studied mainly composition and became a teacher of music theory, while younger brother Kusava succeeded as a pianist. Xaver composed several chamber works in the 1860s, but left composition in the 1870s to concentrate on his activities as a concert pianist, after which he worked primarily as a pedagogue in Berlin and New York. Philippe focused on composing piano and chamber music, and produced a number of works, including the "Suite in G minor" (included here) and the "Violin Sonata No. 2 in E minor," which is characterized by its technical and original composition. In this album, Yora Kim and Matteo Weber vividly illustrate the characteristics of the brothers' music. Yora Kim is a violinist of Korean origin. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim, where he was the first violinist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of the Kassel State Theater. He is also active in chamber music, winning prizes in several competitions, and since 2021 has been the second concertmaster of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Philharmonic Orchestra. Matteo Weber was born in Germany in 2002 and has studied piano since the age of 11, winning the Bach Competition at the age of 13.She has since won awards at the Paris International Music Festival and the César Franck International Competition, and will enter the Karlsruhe College of Music in 2019. She has attended master classes with renowned pianists and received a scholarship to further her studies. Naxos Japan
