In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death, the 7-disc box set of selected film music (C49533) released in 2006 is newly re-released.In addition to his 15 symphonies and 15 string quartets, Shostakovich composed 36 film scores during his lifetime, making him one of the leading composers of the 20th century in this field. While his symphonies and string quartets are marked by anguish and bitterness, his film music reveals a different side, with many of his pieces inspired by light music and full of fun, humor, and twists. It is also worth noting that the orchestration is at its most effective in these areas, thanks to the skillful orchestration. This box contains film and dramatic music he worked on from the 1920s to 1970. Hamlet," based on Shakespeare's play; "King Lear," which exists in two versions, dramatic and film music (the melody of "Jingle Bells" is used to great effect in the clown song); "Ma Abu," popular for its beautiful romance melody; and "New Babylon," Shostakovich's first film music work, The collection includes "Woman Alone," which uses a unique instrument, the theremin. The two Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestras, from East and West Berlin, will perform Shostakovich's works, which were written during the difficult years of the Soviet Union.CDs 1-3 and 5 are Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin in West Berlin, formerly known as the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, now the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin; CDs 4, 6 and 7 are the Rundfunk-Symphonieorchester Berlin in East Berlin, now the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin. Sinfonieorchester Berlin, formerly known as the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, now the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin. The series of recordings were made in Berlin, but the Berlin Wall fell between 1988 and 1995, and Jurovsky, who conducted CDs 4-7, was in contact with Shostakovich and made the first recording of the unfinished opera "The Gambler" in its completed version. The Moscow-born Jurowski's participation in this recording was also triggered by his move to Berlin in 1990, the year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and his son Vladimir is now the principal conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, making this set a historical one.
