Description:
Johann Christian Sickhardt, born three years before J.S. Bach, outlived the composer by more than ten years. Active in Germany and the Netherlands, he wrote many works for the recorder, and during his lifetime he was highly praised by the nobility and royalty to whom he dedicated his works, and was popular with the amateur players who loved to play his works. At least 30 sets of his works were published by the Amsterdam publisher Etienne Roger, but unfortunately, most of the published scores are no longer extant. However, in the early 20th century, with the growing interest in recorder playing, some of his works were republished and his elegant music became known again. The six sonatas on this album are a collection of pieces published by Etienne Roger, all of which have familiar, simple melodies with two recorders as the main instruments. The two players of Epoca Barocca who play on this album each use two different instruments (alto recorder and voice flute) to portray the character of the pieces. Naxos Japan
