He entrusts the education and training of his two sons, Enrico and Pippet, to his tutor, Gregorio, and strictly forbids his sons to have any contact with women.However, his brother Enrico is secretly married to a neighbor's daughter, Gilda, and they even have a child together. Fearing that his father will find out, Enrico turns to Gregorio for help. ...... The young Donizetti composed the opera "The Perplexed Tutor," which premiered in Rome in 1824 to great acclaim. This production is a revival of the Rome premiere version, a new production of the "Donizetti Festival," which was launched in 2015 as a joint project of the Donizetti Foundation and the city of Bergamo, Donizetti's birthplace, and has brought an innovative new style to the performance of Donizetti's works. The production by Francesco Micheli, artistic director of the Donizetti Festival, takes place in the near future, in 2042, and satirizes the way digital technology (social networking sites, tablets, VR goggles, avatars, etc.) has taken over the educational scene, and depicts a father who is trapped by old-fashioned morality and his sons who are seeking a free relationship between men and women.
