Palmgren is popular in Japan for his piano music born of Nordic lyricism and refined Western sensibilities. This is the seventh collection of complete recordings by Somero, who is extremely ambitious among active Finnish pianists. The seventh collection of Somero's complete works includes a number of world premiere recordings. Eight Pieces, Op. 75, was written shortly after Palmgren's arrival in the United States. He gave a total of 24 concerts in New York, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Cleveland, where one critic enthusiastically praised him, saying, "Only Sergei Rachmaninoff can compare with him. He then signed a contract with Composers Music Corporation, which published this Opus 75. All are beautiful works full of Palmgren's typical nostalgia. Serenade, SP252, is an unfinished work of only four pages, but it is believed to be one of his earliest surviving works. Many of his works from his youth have been lost, and "Humoresque in Five Degrees in Left Hand" SP87, written in 5/8 time, was only published in the Danish music magazine "Nordens Musik".The score was difficult to obtain, but it was prepared for this project and has a similar atmosphere to Grieg's music. The autobiographical "Diary," Op. 109, written in 1946, was one of his last piano pieces, and for various reasons was never published before his death. Naxos Japan
