Glyndebourne Festival 1982] Janet Baker, the famous British singer who will celebrate her 90th birthday in August 2023, will revive the rare footage of her last opera performance as Orfeo in "Orfeo and Euridice" at the 1982 Glyndebourne Festival. Janet Baker made her debut as a professional singer in 1959, when she participated in the Glyndebourne Festival as a member of the chorus. Since then, she has built an unparalleled career as one of the leading British mezzo-sopranos of the second half of the 20th century, performing in opera, concert, and recital, with a repertoire ranging from Baroque, Classical, and Romantic music to modern and contemporary music. This video was recorded live at a venue with an audience on August 22, Janet Baker's last opera stage, after 10 performances of "Orfeo e Euridice" during the Festival in June and July 1982.Against the backdrop of Gluck's sublime music, guided by the baton of Raymond Leppard, with whom she has performed many times, and the fantastically rich production by Peter Hall, a master of British theater, Janet Baker's neat and confident singing and stage presence are beautifully captured.
