The first complete recording of Massenet's late masterpiece, long forgotten despite its great success at its premiere! Massenet, who established his immortality in the world of modern French opera with his many successful works such as "Elodieade" (1881), "Manon" (1884), and "Werther" (1892), premiered "Ariane" in 1906 with great success, but it was forgotten because it was never performed again. This is the first recording of the entire work performed by an ideal ensemble. The story is about the princess Ariane (Ariadne), who is supposed to have a heart-to-heart with the hero Theseus (Theseus), who has conquered the labyrinthine monster Minotaur, until she is marooned on the island of Naxos on her way to Athens, Theseus' hometown. Ariane descends into the underworld and begs Queen Persephone to return her sister Phèdre (Phaedra), but Phèdre falls in love with Tézet and the two leave her sister behind. The long story is depicted through meticulous music, richly orchestrated and intermingled with overwhelming melodic beauty.Camperone, who has a proven track record in reviving rare modern operas, and the Munich Radio Orchestra, which gives outstanding performances of rarely performed works, gave a rich interpretation of the opera, and the singers were superb in the title role sung by Amina Edris The singers were also superb in the title role, led by Amina Edris, who also had a prominent presence as Alice in Minkowski's Maierbeer "Robert the Devil".
