Description:
Originating in Lithuania, the Klein family became an important musical family in Imperial Russia and then in Soviet Russia. The patriarch, Abram, was a leading fiddle player of the popular "klezmer" (music with Jewish folk roots) of the time, and a dynamic man with a deep understanding of both Judaism and Christianity, who spoke Estonian, Latvian, German, and perhaps Russian at will. All seven of his sons became musicians, with the brothers Alexander and Grigory being the most gifted, and Grigory's son Julian also left behind an outstanding body of work. All three loved the sound of the clarinet and wrote many works for this instrument. You can hear some of them on this album. Naxos Japan
