Description:
Amaryllis de la Gruyère is a male chorus located in Gruyère, a mountain village in Switzerland famous for its cheese. It was founded in 1955 by Henri Grumeau, director of the Gruyère Museum, and André Corbeau, a music teacher in Bures. André Corbeau was an uncle of the famous conductor Michel Corbeau, who greatly influenced Michel in his musical career. At the time of its founding, the 16-member group sang mainly Swiss folk songs. After a brief hiatus, the group resumed its activities in 1976. The number of members has now increased to 36. In this album, they sing Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, and modern and contemporary religious music. The warm harmonies, a little different in atmosphere from the pinpoint, highly polished singing, are appealing. Naxos Japan
