The Bavarian State Orchestra can trace its history back to 1523, and although timpani were recorded as early as 1600, a full-fledged percussion section was not established until 1925. The percussion section formed an ensemble called "O-Percussion" in 2009. The name is a combination of the German word "Oper," meaning "opera" and the English word "percussion. Although they are usually inconspicuous in the pit of an opera house, once they leave the pit, they give an overwhelming performance with their great technique, groove-filled ensemble, and joyful musicality. The audience-less live performance during the theater's closure due to the new coronavirus has attracted a lot of attention, and the Bavarian State Opera has released the CD on its own label.
