Resonance Consort
Description:
The recorder was loved in England during the Renaissance as a joyful instrument for ensemble playing, just like the viola da gamba (viol). The ensemble of various instruments of the same size, from treble to bass, was called a "hall consort," and although many composers' works were performed in such an arrangement at the time, surprisingly few albums of recorder hall consort recordings have been published. A new recording that quenches that thirst comes from Paradizo, the private label of Skip Sempé, one of the best harpsichordists of the 21st century. The sound of these five talented players, led by the virtuoso Julien Martin and who have been active in leading ensembles in French-speaking countries, including Sempé's Capriccio Stravagante, is not only full of the unique resonance of a consort in which the recorders blend with each other, but also has a warmth of character and individual tone in pieces with lively movement among the various parts. In the piece where the movements of each part are lively, the individual personalities and the warmth of the individual tones stand out freely and openly, and there is no shortage of thrilling listening experiences that overturn, in a positive sense, the image of peaceful old music. The program, which is exquisitely contrasted with the track in which Sempé and his colleagues resonate with the elegant tones of the keyboard, is full of masterpieces from the 16th century by King Henry VIII and Christopher Tye, who were known for their taste in music and other arts, to the famous works by the masters who colored the final years of the reign of the "Virgin King" Elizabeth I. The program is full of elements that will surely appeal to listeners who are familiar with the field as well as those who are beginners. This is an excellent program that will surely appeal to listeners who are familiar with this field as well as those who are beginners in the field of classical music. Naxos Japan
