Czech-born composer Antoine Reicha (also Antonin Reicha). A friend of Haydn and Beethoven, he was a professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory, where he trained Berlioz, Liszt, and Franck, and wrote many works for wind instruments. His piano works were rarely performed, but Henrik Löwenmark, who has been working on a revival of Reicha's works, has recorded the complete works, making it possible to hear rare Reicha works. The fifth collection features three variations and numerous character pieces, including a world premiere recording. The collection offers a glimpse of Reichia's creativity, which aimed to break away from the baroque style. Naxos Japan
