The world of music by the unknown masters who brought Italian style to the famous pilgrimage site in the 17th century. In recent years, however, research on Baroque works has also been progressing, and the Lauda label has made a significant contribution to the introduction of this music. The works on this album are by Baquedano, a Basque composer active at the same time as Lully in France and Buxtehude in Germany, and a music director at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a famous pilgrimage site in northwestern Spain, from 1680. The music is in the Renaissance style, in which melodies are interlaced in eight to ten parts, but in the Italian style of concertato, in which the independence of each part is accentuated by the bass continuo, and the verses are easy to understand. La Grande Chapelle, led by Leccasens, again has one singer for each part, with one violin, three gambas, bafon, harp, organ, and harpsichord, and the interpretation is clear and tasteful.The participation of Miriam Rignol, who made a splash with her album of Bach's Suite for Solo Cello on viol (CVS040/domestic edition NYCX-10225), as well as the addition of a bajón (dulcian) player, a particularly popular instrument in Spanish classical music, trusted by Copeman, Herreweghe, and others, makes the eight-member instrumental ensemble's vigorous playing very much audible and pure.
