Commemorating the bicentennial of his birth, this excellent project traces the evolution of Franck's style! To commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of Belgium's leading composer, César Franck, Fuga Libera, a label from the composer's home country, has released a four-CD set containing all of his chamber music works. Organized in collaboration with the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and the Palazetto Bru Zane (Center for Romantic French Music), the album features artists who teach at the conservatory, including Augustin Dumay, Shuichi Okada, Frank Bra Ray, and Jonathan Fournel, among others. Starting with the single-movement Piano Trio, which Franck wrote just before he turned 12, through the famous Violin Sonata and Piano Quintet, to the String Quartet of his final years, the recordings are arranged in chronological order of composition (the Cello Sonata is arranged by year).
