Two virtuosos who uncompromisingly bring out the flavor of ancient instruments, C.P.E. Bach's blissful duo François Lazarevich is a master not only of the flauto-traverso (ancient instrument flute) but also of folk instruments, and is known as a virtuoso of traditional bagpipes and musettes from various regions of France. He has produced many masterpieces for the ALPHA label, and his collaborators include the harpsichord prodigy Jean Rondeau on a collection of Bach sonatas (ALPHA 490) and the gifted violinist David Greenberg on an album of traditional Irish music (ALPHA 234). This time, however, the recording is with the French keyboardist Justin Taylor, who has made remarkable strides in recent years. This is a delightful release of a collection of works by C.P.E. Bach, the second son of the great Bach and a unique prodigy with an unmistakable personality. Inheriting his father's interest in polyphonic music, his impressionistic style of transforming the ever-changing subtleties of the human heart into sound echoes is ahead of its time, and here and there we hear moments that anticipate the Romanticism of his mid-18th century works.Lazarevich and Taylor will perform works written by C.P.E. Bach at the court of Frederick the Great, a music lover who loved the flute and took an interest in the fortepiano from its earliest days. Lazarevich and Taylor bring out the natural sound of their instruments to their fullest potential, creating a duo full of musicality in every moment. It is a pleasure to enjoy the taste of sound space that can only be created between these two musicians, with the natural engineering sound that only ALPHA can provide.
