Mozart's secret works from his travels in Italy are revived by the hands of the country's ancient instrumentalists. However, the invaluable charm of the earlier Haydn works is not so well known. Many of these early works, which are not widely recorded, were written during the composer's boyhood in Italy, when he was trying to make a name for himself as an opera composer. Nos. 2-7 are a set of six "Milan Quartets," and No. 1 was written in a lodge in Lodi on his way back from a trip to the court theater in Turin for the first performance of "Mitoridate, King of Ponto," hence the name of this ancient city. The quartets are full of the fresh creativity of Mozart's most important period of study, the mastery of the Italian style, and now they are being recorded by a new generation of Italian instrumentalists who have made their mark on the world. The four virtuoso players, who are trained by world-famous Italian instrumentalists such as Giuliano Carmignola, a genius of ancient instrumental performance, have carefully examined the process of formation of the works, and their fresh interpretations bring back to life the sounds that the young Mozart had just written in the midst of the new trends of the time, which had developed from the era of the bassoonist's basso continuo. The four masterpieces are well examined.The engineering of Federico Furlanetto, a talented engineer, is also exquisite, conveying well the material flavor of the gut strings in a moderate reverberation.
