Description:
The Vogler String Quartet presents a collection of Dvořák's string quartets. Composed around 1870, No. 2 is a youthful and fresh melody, but it was not performed during Dvořák's lifetime, and even today it is not often performed. Although No. 5 is written in a traditional form, it is also an unusual work in that all the movements are in F minor. The Trio is a suite-like work consisting of four character pieces. The final piece, "Larghetto," is a variation on a melancholy tune. The Vogler String Quartet was founded in 1985 by students of the Hans Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. The following year, the quartet won first prize at the Evian String Quartet Competition, which brought it instant recognition and international success. Since its founding, the quartet has never changed members and is known for playing a wide repertoire ranging from Haydn to Bartók, and even tango and pop music at times with ease. Naxos Japan
