Description:

A miraculous recording made after the restoration and before the fire! The true face of a popular and hidden composer of the Belgian modern eraThe Palais des Bozars (Bozar), located near Brussels Central Station and close to the Royal Conservatory of Music, is a long-established hall built in 1928. It was beautifully decorated by Victor Horta, the great Art Nouveau decorator, and in 1930, two years after its opening, a magnificent organ was installed. This was around the same time that Dupré, Vierne, and other French-speaking masters known for their symphonies and other large-scale organ works were active in the French-speaking world. The instrument suffered a fire in 1967, and after half a century of silence, it was restored in 2017, restoring its interwar appearance and sound to its former glory. However, on January 18, 2021, it again suffered a serious fire, and was rendered unusable again, partly due to water sprayed by firefighting efforts. It is important to note that this disc, which was barely recorded the month before the fire, is the last record of the restoration work done in 2017, and it is a joy to know that the program chosen was a collection of works by Joseph Jongen, a master who lived at the same time as the instrument and has many secret admirers in Japan. The music is by Joseph Jongen, a master who lived at the same time as the instrument. He was the same age as Rachmaninoff and Reger, and like them, he cultivated a unique style based on the late Romanticism, but also heavily influenced by the French modern style. The multifaceted charm of Jongen's organ art, which is not limited to this one piece, can only be approached through this recording, which is carefully recorded with the sounds of historical venues and instruments of the same period. The young, young Jongen, reminiscent of Fauré and Chausson, is a very good example. The recording includes delicate tonal expressions reminiscent of Fauré and Chausson in the small pieces of his youth, as well as late masterpieces such as "Heroic Sonatas" and "Toccata," in which Jongen's distinctive solid song structures are colored with the sound of 20th century French style. Cindy Castillo, based in Brussels and active around the world, including Japan, where she was the resident organist of the Sapporo Concert Hall during the 2008/09 season, will convey the charm of this historical instrument with its beautiful sound intact.
