Description:
This album contains works by two British "princes". In 1970, a group of composers who served as trustees of the British Performing Rights Society presented Prince Charles with a leather-bound book of music. It contains works written for him while he was a student at Cambridge University, where he played cello, trumpet, and piano, and tracks 1-17 of this album are taken from this book. The second half of the album is music "by the Prince. Tracks 18-31 are German lieder composed by Prince Albert, an ancestor of His Royal Highness Prince Charles. Prince Albert was born into the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family in Germany and married Queen Victoria in 1840. He promoted reforms in royal finances and discipline, and successfully organized the 1851 World's Fair in London. His name still remains in the Royal Albert Hall and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Prince Albert, who was born in Germany, corresponded with Mendelssohn, and this collection of songs also evokes the style of Mendelssohn's time. Naxos Japan
